ALL ABOUT ROPE, INC was formed to facilitate and promote research and testing on rescue rope, rescue equipment and rescue techniques. ALL ABOUT ROPE is committed to the safety and well being of all rescuers and hopes to insure their safety through presentations developed as a result of the lessons learned and knowledge gained from that testing and research.

The company was formed by Jim Kovach in 2004.

Jim retired in 2007 from the Fairview Park Fire Department (just west of Cleveland, Ohio) after 32 years of service. He became a state certified fire service instructor in 1990 and became a lead instructor teaching rescue in 1992. He currently limits his teaching to rope rescue and rescue rigging as it applies to confined space rescue. In 1996 he began presenting the results of his testing and research at the North American Technical Rescue Symposium and continued with presentations in 1998, and 1999. In the years 2000 through the present he has spoken at the International Technical Rescue Symposium, receiving awards for his presentations in 2003 and 2005.

In 2006 Jim received the New River Gorge Bridge Day Rappel Eagle Award for his reasearch and testing on rappelling long drops.

Jim’s articles on rescue have appeared in Fire/Rescue Magazine, Nylon Highway, and Response, The Journal of the National Association for Search and Rescue. He has also authored a chapter on tower rescue for the book High Angle Rescue Techniques by Steve Hudson and Tom Vines. The results of his presentations and testing have appeared in publications such as Rescue Technology and the Mountain Rescue Association Annual Report.

Jim is also a member of the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians.
